The practical outcomes of the research conducted in the above-mentioned projects include new EU solutions reflected in its policy and program documents, as well as legal acts. The Department's contributions have been highlighted on the European Commission’s website in documents such as:

  • Keeping Europe Moving – Sustainable Mobility for our Continent – a revision of the White Paper European Transport Policy for 2010: Time to Decide, based on the findings of the ASSESS research project.
  • Greening Transport Package (defining sustainable transport principles), including the methodology handbook recommended for widespread use in the EU, Handbook on Estimation of External Costs in the Transport Sector, co-authored by Monika Bąk and Barbara Pawłowska.

In 1997, a report titled Fact Sheet on Transport in Poland (by Jan Burnewicz and Monika Bąk) was prepared for the European Parliament. The research results from the Department, along with its expertise, were also utilized in other forums, particularly the ECMT (European Conference of Ministers of Transport) and in the work of the Panel on Sustainability, Environment, and Natural Resources as part of the European project Enlargement Futures Project.

The Department played a crucial role in shaping the transport market in Poland, preparing it for integration with the European Union. Between 1993 and 1995, Prof. Jan Burnewicz developed the Transport Policy document, which was adopted by the Council of Ministers, and many of its goals were successfully implemented. From 1996 to 2000, the Department actively supported preparations for Poland's transport sector to join the EU through comparative analyses, integration scenario development, and drafting negotiation documents. Research was also conducted on transport infrastructure, the competitiveness of enterprises, and sector development forecasts.

Between 2003 and 2007, the Department participated in the development of operational programs related to the utilization of EU funds in transport. In 2017, it prepared a report for the Ministry of Infrastructure on the impact of EU regulations on Polish road transport.

Recognition of the Department’s expertise in transport and logistics was reflected in the inclusion of its representatives in the team implementing the National Foresight Program "Poland 2020" from 2007 to 2008 (Jan Burnewicz – Head of the Transport Panel, Monika Bąk – Deputy Head of the Panel). The program helped outline priority research directions for Poland over the next several years.

Faculty members of the Department were invited as experts by the European Commission and the European Parliament, and also carried out commissioned work for these institutions (Monika Bąk, Przemysław Borkowski).
