HISTORY AND SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT ECONOMICS
Throughout its existence, the Department has conducted intensive scientific research, focusing on economic issues within the transport and logistics sector. It has also developed an educational offer at the Faculty of Economics, particularly in the field of transport economics and logistics, as well as in other study programs. The Department has actively participated in important organizational tasks at the University of Gdańsk, while simultaneously carrying out numerous analytical and expert works for Polish and European public institutions.
The current team of six academic teachers in the Department (Dr. hab. Monika Bąk, Dr. hab. Przemysław Borkowski, Dr. hab. Giuseppe T. Cirella, Dr. hab. Aleksandra Koźlak, Dr. hab. Barbara Pawłowska, Dr. Elżbieta Adamowicz) consists mostly of graduates of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk (formerly the Faculty of Transport Economics). The applied research conducted by the Department’s staff is aimed at shaping efficient, effective, and sustainable transport systems in the context of modern economic, social, and environmental conditions. Additionally, the individual staff members explore specific areas of their academic interests.
The scientific advancements of former and current staff members of the Department include the achievement of:
- One title of professor (1994 – Jan Burnewicz – retired professor),
- Four habilitation degrees (2007 – Monika Bąk, 2013 – Aleksandra Koźlak, 2014 – Barbara Pawłowska, 2014 – Przemysław Borkowski, 2020 – Giuseppe T. Cirella / equivalent degree),
- Six doctoral degrees (1996 – Monika Bąk, 1998 – Barbara Pawłowska, 1999 – Elżbieta Adamowicz, 2000 – Aleksandra Koźlak, 2003 – Przemysław Borkowski, 2019 – Agnieszka Ważna – former Department staff member).
