Bachelor's Thesis of an International Finance and Banking Graduate Published on the Mises Institute Website

On February 3, 2014, Mateusz Cyrzan's bachelor's thesis, titled "The Prospect of Returning to the Gold Standard in the United States in the Context of the 2007 Crisis," was published on the Mises Institute website. The thesis was prepared at the Division of International Financial Markets under the supervision of Dr. Magdalena Markiewicz.

This bachelor's thesis presents a historical overview and the prospect of a return to the gold standard in the United States. Mateusz Cyrzan aimed to demonstrate that the gold standard was a monetary system that contributed to the economic development of the USA. Furthermore, he argued that a potential return to the gold parity under the economic and political conditions prevailing in the United States in 2013 is highly reasonable, desirable, and feasible in the second decade of the 21st century. The thesis devotes considerable attention to the Great Depression of 1929-1933, the American banking system over more than a century, and the advocates of a return to the gold standard and their significance in American public life.

The Ludwig von Mises Institute, founded in Wrocław in August 2003, is an independent, non-profit research and educational center drawing on the traditions of the Austrian School of Economics, classical liberalism, and libertarian political thought. The Institute is named after Ludwig von Mises, a prominent 20th-century economist. Its mission is to raise public awareness of the nature of economic processes and the fundamental institutions of a free-market economy, as well as to promote relationships based on voluntary and peaceful human cooperation.

The Ludwig von Mises Institute publishes economic, philosophical, and political texts on its website that can be classified as free-market, liberal, or libertarian. Among the essays and articles by renowned Polish and international authors, one can find students' academic works, primarily focusing on the Austrian School of Economics, monetary systems, and liberal state theory.
