LSEG Research Grant Competition

This is the fourth edition of the LSEG Research Grant Competition, an initiative created through the collaboration between the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk and LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group).

 

PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION

Our shared goal - as a University and as Business - is to promote knowledge and science. Through the LSEG Research Grant Competition, we aim to encourage ambitious students to expand their competencies by conducting a comprehensive research project on one of the proposed topics.

 

RESEARCH GRANT

The best projects will be awarded! The amount of the Basic Grant, funded by LSEG, is PLN 3,000.00 gross for each individual or group project*. In addition, selected winners will receive a Special Grant ranging from PLN 5,000.00 to PLN 8,000.00 for each chosen individual or group project*. The total prize pool is PLN 40,000.00 gross.

*A group may consist of up to 3 people; the grant amount is divided among the participants. 

 

IMPORTANT DATES

January 13, 2026 – Submission of the competition application via e-mail to: lukasz.dopierala@ug.edu.pl

January 20, 2026 – Notification of selected participants admitted to Stage II

April 10, 2026 – Submission of the presentation and the article or extended abstract**

May 2026 – Presentation of results

June 2026 – Award ceremony

RESULTS OF STAGE I OF THE LSEG RESEARCH GRANT COMPETITION

We are pleased to announce that the Competition Jury, composed of representatives of LSEG and the Faculty of Economics, University of Gdansk, has completed the evaluation of applications submitted in Stage I of the LSEG Research Grant Competition.

The following five projects have been qualified for the next stage of the competition:

  • Anastasiia Kizian, Asymmetric Market Responses to Geopolitical News Sentiment: A Comparative Analysis of U.S., Russian, and Ukrainian State-Related Events;
     
  • Shuo Yang, Predicting EU–US Logistics Cost Volatility Using Real-Time News Sentiment Analysis – A Machine Learning Approach Integrating LSEG News Analytics and Freight Market Data;
     
  • Monika Chwiałkowska, Reputational Risk Management in the Banking Sector – Impact on Market Value: Case Studies of Credit Suisse, Getin Noble Bank, and Wells Fargo;
     
  • Wiktor Linowiecki, News as a Market Driver: From Traditional Media to Algorithmic Sentiment Analysis and Real-Time Market Prediction.
