The Department of Economics and Functioning of Transport Enterprises is an academic unit, operating within the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdansk. The Department's staff conducts research and teaching activities in the broad areas of operation, finance, behaviour, diagnosis, auditing of enterprises and practical application of economic knowledge.
The statutory activities of the Department are primarily due to the formation of basic research profiles over the years. These include:
- Enterprise theory - within which two main research areas can be distinguished: diagnosis of economic enterprises and their market environment, the functioning of economic units, and current research involving pragmatic assumptions of organizational behavior and business models;
- Management of transportation enterprises - including the complex dimension of economic and management issues of these enterprises and detailed research that takes into account the structural aspects of the problem;
- Economic analysis and auditing - with particular emphasis on the financial, operational and marketing dimensions, as well as the impact of the labor market and human capital on business development opportunities.
As part of its educational offerings, the Department of Economics and Functioning of Transport Enterprises conducts the following specializations in the field of economics:
- “Enterprise - Finance and Market” - undergraduate studies,
- “Economic diagnosis and functioning of enterprises” - graduate studies,
- "Business analytics in the enterprise" - graduate studies.
At the same time, employees of the Department, in the course of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies, teach classes covering specialty subjects in the specialties: “Transportation economics and logistics”, ‘Business and ecological technology’ ‘Finance in enterprises’. “International business” and doctoral seminars in the Doctoral School of Humanities and Social Sciences at UG.
The staff of the Department of Economics and Functioning of Transport Enterprises develop project and expert activities (training and related courses), which are devoted to the practical application of economic knowledge in management processes. The largest group of research carried out by the staff is the study of transport enterprises, with particular emphasis on road transport (regular bus and cargo transport). The result of these activities are research papers, expert reports, consulting and advisory materials for numerous entities of economic life, as well as municipal authorities and local government units.
The Department's staff can boast of significant participation in the work of the European Union's Science Program Development Programs, operational programs or privatization programs. Individual employees of the Department also take an active part in economic life by acting as consultants or managing the accounting and finance areas of organizations and enterprises in various sectors of the economy and local government units.
