Faculty of Economics at UG as a Partner in the International BIP Programme “Doing Business in Europe” in Bremen

From June 2 to 6, 2025, students from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk participated in the international Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) titled “Doing Business in Europe”, organized by Hochschule Bremen, City University of Applied Sciences (HSB), in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk, the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (Portugal), and the Universidad de La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain).

The programme was delivered in a blended format. In May, students took part in a series of online sessions conducted by Prof. Stefan Veith (HSB), during which they explored key aspects of international accounting, including the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The core element of the programme took place in Bremen, where students spent a full week engaged in an intensive simulation game led by Prof. Martina Röhrich (HSB). Working in international teams, the participants managed virtual companies, developed strategies, and responded to market challenges. The programme placed particular emphasis on the development of strategic and analytical thinking, as well as teamwork in a multicultural environment.

The Polish coordinator of the programme was Prof. Joanna Bednarz, who also led an opening workshop on intercultural communication, marking the start of the on-site phase. Dr Magdalena Markiewicz, Vice-Dean for Development and Cooperation with the Socio-Economic Environment, also took part in the BIP on behalf of the Faculty of Economics.

In addition to the intensive academic sessions, students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of cultural and integration activities, including guided tours of Bremen and Hamburg.

The programme concluded with final presentations of team results and a closing ceremony. Participation in the BIP enabled students to earn 6 ECTS credits while also helping them develop practical skills in international business, teamwork, and communication.

All participants received financial support from the Erasmus+ programme.
