Pomeranian Scientific Workshops

The Talented from Pomerania 2.0 Program was launched in mid-September 2024 at the University of Gdańsk.

The Talented from Pomerania 2.0 project aims to support talented students from the Pomeranian Voivodeship in grades VII-VIII of primary and secondary schools. The main assumptions are that the project will develop youth talents, eliminate disparities in access to education, and awaken students' creativity and innovation. The project also aims to improve teachers' competencies in working with talented students.

Many interdisciplinary lectures and workshops were held on September 16-20, 2024.

Lecturers from the Faculty of Economics actively participated in the project as part of the Sustainable Business path, preparing workshops held in the Oliwa Campus and at the Faculty of Economics in the Sopot Campus.

The workshops at the Oliwa Campus as part of the leading path "Sustainable Business" were led by experienced WE educators, introducing interesting economic topics.

Dr Sylwia Machowska-Okrój presented The Riddles of Market Structures: From Perfect Competition to Monopoly,

Dr Dorota Książkiewicz - Crisis management in practice: how to cope with difficult situations?

Dr Maciej Krzemiński conducted workshops on: Do you know you have been implementing projects for years? And now a little about how to do it professionally.

Dr Ewa Ignaciuk prepared classes on Tailor-made business activity or how to choose the proper organisational and legal form of business activity in Poland,

and Mr Przemysław Wysiński on What's going on in finance? How to recognise that an enterprise has achieved success.

We also prepared additional cognitive activities at the Sopot Campus of the University of Gdańsk, which included a curatorial walk, "Stories of the Sopot resort. A visit to Art Incubator".

On September 19, 2024, school youth accompanied by teachers arrived in Sopot to walk around the city. The group exited the Fire Department building near the Faculty of Economics.

Dr Sylwia Machowska-Okrój and Dr Jarosław Kempa took on the role of tour guides.

Exciting stories about Sopot, its history, and attractions awaited the students and teachers, prepared by Dr Jarosław Kempa, who showed our guests around the resort. We thank the cultural institution Art Incubator on the beautiful Goyki Street for warmly welcoming us into their hospitable home during the walk.

After arriving at the venue, the group of young people was taken care of by the facility's director, Joanna Cichocka-Gula, a journalist and director, who showed the young people around the historic palace from 1894. The young people learned that the Art Incubator is a local government cultural institution. Its primary task is to conduct activities to create and promote culture, cultural education and supporting creative environments.

The tour participants also viewed an exhibition of paintings and photographs available in the visited facility. Then, the tour, looking at the city, went through the park straight to the Bay of Gdańsk. The destination was the pier in Sopot. The walk was accompanied by sunny weather and exciting stories from the guide. The young people decided to end the tour by eating delicious ice cream.

But that's not the end of the attractions waiting for the talented students! As part of the afternoon cognitive classes, the students also got to know the Faculty of Economics as part of the program "Attractions of the Sopot campus. Visit to the London Stock Exchange laboratory. Field game".

A study visit to the extraordinary London Stock Exchange Group laboratory, the Eikon Lab, at the Faculty of Economics, allowed young participants to discover the secrets of the currency and stock markets' dynamically changing parameters. Dr Monika Szmelter led these classes.

The students also enjoyed seeing how scientists work and where important decisions are made, visiting the Faculty of Economics Council at the University of Gdańsk meeting room and the spacious lecture halls.

Dr Ewa Ignaciuk and Dr Magdalena Markiewicz guided the youth. The world map also fascinated us, allowing us to dream about the possibility of visiting different countries and taking fascinating journeys.

Congratulations to all students and teachers for participating in the Talented from Pomerania program.
We thank our excellent lecturers for preparing ambitious classes full of smiles and knowledge.
