International Week at the Faculty of Economics: Innovation Across Europe & Africa
From 11 to 15 May 2026, the Faculty of Economics hosted the International Week entitled Innovation Across Europe & Africa: Connecting Education, Research and Culture across Borders. The event brought together professors from three partner universities: Namibia University of Science and Technology (Prof. Efigenia Semente and Prof. Eden Shipanga), Botswana International University of Science and Technology (Prof. Dawn Lyken-Segosebe, Prof. Gladys Gamariel and Prof. Mapeto Bomani), and the University of Sfax (Prof. Meriam Belkhir and Prof. Ines Abdelkafi).
The event was organized by dr. Hab. Anna Golejewska, Professor at the University of Gdańsk, Erasmus+ KA171 Cooperation Coordinator, with the support of dr. Adriana Zabłocka-Abi Yaghi and dr. Magdalena Markiewicz, Vice-Dean for Development and Cooperation with the Socio-Economic Environment at the Faculty of Economics.
The programme included formal meetings at the University of Gdańsk, presentations by the partner universities, a research seminar, participation in the University Career Fair, and discussions on potential directions for future academic and educational cooperation.
Particular appreciation was expressed for the presentations delivered by third-year undergraduate students enrolled in the Innovation in the Economy specialization of the Economics programme. Their presentations focused on analyses of regional innovation systems in selected African countries. The session was also attended online by professors from the University of Mauritius (Prof. Harshana Kasseeah and Prof. Riad Sultan). The guests highlighted the students’ excellent preparation, analytical skills, and the relevance of the selected topics.
The participants also expressed their appreciation for the professional support and organizational assistance provided by the University of Gdańsk Office for Cooperation and International Relations, whose contribution was instrumental in ensuring the smooth organization and successful implementation of the entire event.
