Prof. Michalis Drouvelis from the University of Birmingham Visits the Faculty of Economics

In the first half of March, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdansk hosted Prof. Michalis Drouvelis from the University of Birmingham. The professor visited the university at the invitation of Dr. hab. Anna Blajer-Gołębiewska, Professor of the University of Gdańsk, and Dr. Elżbieta Babula, in connection with a joint research project on information avoidance in decision-making within the context of behavioural economics.

Prof. Michalis Drouvelis is a Professor of Behavioural Economics at the University of Birmingham and a recognised researcher in the fields of behavioural and experimental economics. His research focuses on social preferences, cooperation, and decision-making processes, analysed using economic experiments.
During his visit, the professor conducted a number of teaching and academic activities aimed at developing research competencies, enriching the study programme, and strengthening international academic cooperation in behavioural economics.

During meetings with doctoral students, Prof. Drouvelis presented advanced research approaches, including experimental design, selected frameworks from game theory, behavioural data analysis, and methodologies commonly used in contemporary research. These sessions allowed doctoral students to deepen their understanding of current theoretical and empirical trends and to further develop their research skills.

The professor also delivered lectures for undergraduate students, aimed at introducing the basic assumptions and applications of behavioural economics. Students learned about the behavioural determinants of economic decision-making. These classes broadened students’ perspectives and strengthened the international dimension of the educational programme.
