Set sail with the SEA-EU Alliance!

Are there any students and staff at the University of Gdansk who are looking for a challenge and are interested in gaining international experience? If so, we come with an offer of initiatives organised as a part of SEA-EU, an alliance of nine European coastal universities. Our partners are universities from Spain, France, Germany, Croatia, Malta, Portugal, Italy and Norway. Together we are developing a programme of international projects for undergraduates, postgraduates and staff. Our current offer includes master internships abroad, language buddy programme and an international project competition.

Virtual Tandem Language Exchange

How do you explain to a student of Polish on which “willows do the pears grow”? Is the saying “curiosity killed the cat” based on some tragic cat habits? And why did someone include ponies in German saying “das Leben ist kein Ponyhof”? All these questions can be answered in the Virtual Tandem Language Exchange programme, which enables participants to improve their language skills through conversations with language partners from other countries.

With VTLE, two students from SEA-EU's universities can teach each other the languages that they are fluent in. The language partners arrange meetings, agree on the amount of material and learning methods. Currently you can find language buddies who are fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Polish, German, Norwegian, Croatian, Italian and even Maltese.

The programme is available at any time via a dedicated online platform where users can register as a student (B1 level required) and/or a teacher who is a native speaker or has C2 language skills.

We encourage you to register and find an ideal language partner! Please note that registrations are only accepted from university email addresses.

We also offer traditional language courses. New offers appear on our page Language Offers - SEA-EU

Student and PhD student project competition

We are looking for students and PhD students who would like to create a project that responds to some of contemporary societal challenges. The winning idea will receive funding of up to €4,000.

The form, subject and scope of the initiative remain up to the contestants, but the team must consist of at least two people from different SEA-EU universities, and the project should be supervised by an employee of the University of Gdańsk. International partners from other universities can be found by filling in a special form.

Proposals should be submitted in the following categories:

  • Inclusion, Diversity and Gender Policy;
  • Sustainability;
  • Multilingualism and pluralism;
  • Digitalisation and digital forms of collaboration;
  • Social entrepreneurship and positive community/social impact.

We invite everyone interested in the competition to join online meetings: 18 November from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 27 November from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Details are available on the page.

SEA-EU Master Internships

This programme is a unique opportunity to conduct research for a master thesis at another university, improve your language skills and collaborate with foreign researchers. The initiative includes more than 100 different Master's internship offers at 9 partner universities of the alliance.

Students can choose from six scientific subject areas: natural sciences, medical and health sciences, agricultural and veterinary sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts, or engineering and technology.

All student trips are part of the Erasmus+ programme and should last a minimum of 60 days. The stay can also serve as credit for internships required for master's studies (approval from the internship manager of the course is needed). This is an excellent opportunity for those considering a short-term academic exchange.

By going far from home, you learn much more about the world and consequently about yourself. It’s a good way to leave your comfort zone and find out how you react to a situation that is not common for you’ says Loïc Madec from the Université de Bretagne Occidentale, who visited University of Gdańsk as part of the programme.

What offers are available in the programme? Where to sign up? And what are the requirements? See on our website.
