Farewell to Stanisław Ciesiółka, Member of the Expert Council of the Faculty of Economics, University of Gdańsk

With deep sorrow, we received the news of the passing of Mr Stanisław Ciesiółka.
On 19 March 2026, Mr Stanisław Ciesiółka passed away – a member of the Expert Council of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk, a naval engineer, manager, and long-standing representative of the Polish shipbuilding industry, associated both with the operational activities of shipyards and their representation within the industry.
He was a graduate of Conradinum and the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology at Gdańsk University of Technology, where he obtained a Master of Engineering degree in 1973. He also completed postgraduate studies in the organization and economics of foreign trade at the University of Gdańsk, as well as a programme in marketing and management delivered by the Gdańsk Foundation for Management Development in cooperation with BI Norwegian School of Management in Oslo (1992–1993).
His professional career was closely associated with NAUTA Shiprepair Yard in Gdynia, where he held a number of key positions – from Head of Newbuilding Projects, through Head of the Commercial Department, to President of the Management Board, a position he assumed in 1998. This period coincided with profound transformations in the Polish shipbuilding industry.
In subsequent years, he was active on the international market, supervising the construction of new vessels for foreign shipowners. Between 2008 and 2010, he oversaw shipbuilding projects for the German shipowner Orion Bulkers, and later cooperated with Reederei Johann M.K. Blumenthal in Hamburg as a consultant for newbuilding projects.
In 2011–2012, he served as Director of the Office of the Polish Shipbuilding Employers’ Association “Forum Okrętowe”, where he represented the industry's interests and fostered dialogue between enterprises and the public administration. This role marked the culmination of his long-standing commitment to developing and integrating Poland’s maritime economy.
After concluding his work with “Forum Okrętowe”, he remained professionally active as an independent expert and consultant. He contributed to projects in the maritime sector, served in advisory roles, and participated in certification and training activities.
From 2015 onwards, he worked as a consultant within his own business, sharing the knowledge and experience he had gained over many years in the industry.
Between 2011 and 2023, he served on the Expert Council of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk. He actively participated in all Council meetings, as well as in academic-year inaugurations and key University events. We will deeply miss his presence, his chronicling work, attentiveness, and kindness.
We bid him farewell with sorrow, but also with gratitude for his contribution to the development of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk.
