We invite you to participate in the Case Study Contest for presentations, co-organized by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk and Ocean Network Express (ONE).
The second edition of the Case Study Contest is not just an academic task – it is a real business challenge from the TSL (transport, shipping, and logistics) industry. Participants have the opportunity to gain a paid internship in a global logistics company, win cash prizes, and present their ideas to industry professionals.
The deadline for submitting your presentation in English is March 22, 2026, and the contest final will take place on March 31, 2026, in Gdańsk.
The topic addresses current global challenges.
In the face of increasing demand volatility and disruptions in global supply chains, the efficient utilization of vessel cargo space has become a key challenge for shipping companies. The proposed approach integrates artificial intelligence (AI) with real-time operational data.
First, predictive models (e.g., machine learning) can analyze historical booking data, seasonality, and macroeconomic factors to more accurately forecast cargo space demand.
Second, integrating these forecasts with Vessel Management Systems enables dynamic adjustment of container allocation and routing.
Third, the use of optimization algorithms (e.g., AI-driven stowage planning) enables maximizing space utilization while accounting for operational constraints (safety, cargo type, destination ports).
The results of such an approach include:
- reduction of empty slots,
- lower operational costs,
- increased flexibility and resilience of the supply chain.
This solution aligns with the digitalization trend in the shipping industry and may provide a real competitive advantage for companies such as Ocean Network Express.
