Visiting Professors at the University of Gdańsk – Winners of the 6th Edition of the Programme

The results of the 6th call for applications to the Visiting Professors at the University of Gdańsk programme have been announced. Thanks to funding provided under this edition, the University of Gdańsk will host 15 researchers from 13 countries, with visits taking place across 10 faculties and units of the University.

 

Visiting Professors at the Faculty of Economics

As part of the 6th edition of the programme, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk will host two Visiting Professors:

 

Prof. Michalis Drouvelis (University of Birmingham, United Kingdom), invited by Dr hab. Anna Blajer-Gołębiewska, Prof. UG.
During his visit, he will conduct teaching activities in behavioural and experimental economics and hold research-oriented working meetings. A joint academic publication is also planned.

 

Prof. Anke Winchenbach (University of Surrey, United Kingdom), invited by Dr hab. Piotr Zientara, Prof. UG.
During her stay at the University of Gdańsk, she will deliver teaching activities on social sustainability and tourism ethics. She will also work on a publication focusing on risk management, in particular, labour rights violations and the involvement of non-unionised labour organisations as a form of corporate risk.

 

Programme „Visiting Professors” at the University of Gdansk

The Visiting Professors at the University of Gdańsk programme is implemented as part of the Excellence Initiative – Research University and aims to strengthen the internationalisation of the University of Gdańsk in the areas of research and teaching. It enables short-term (2–4 weeks) and medium-term (5–12 weeks) visits by outstanding international scholars, fostering the establishment and development of sustainable international cooperation.

Within the 6th edition of the programme, 36 applications were submitted, of which 15 received a positive evaluation (41.67%). The University of Gdańsk will host scholars from Australia, Belgium, Chile, France, Spain, Indonesia, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, the United States, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The awardees will deliver a total of 130 hours of teaching and conduct research in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and exact sciences. Plans also include joint publications in renowned academic journals and activities aimed at securing research grants.

Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, Prof. UG, Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Internationalisation and Chair of the Evaluation Committee. “We are committed to the sustainable transfer of knowledge, research competences, and modern teaching methods, as well as to actively co-creating the European and global research and education landscape.”

Previous editions of the programme confirm that the University of Gdańsk is well prepared to serve as a host campus. “Our guests highly appreciate both the conditions for conducting research and teaching and the academic quality of research teams and students,” adds Magdalena Dziki from the Office for Cooperation and Internationalisation. “The experience gained during the implementation of the programme provides a solid foundation for its further development and for strengthening international cooperation.”
