On 27 November 2025, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk became a venue for in-depth academic debate devoted to contemporary challenges in logistics, spatial planning, and socio-economic development.

The Logistics Scientific Conference, organized by the Logistics Students' Club in cooperation with the Students’ Scientific Association of Spatial Economy, brought together representatives of the academic community, local government and business, as well as students and doctoral candidates. The conference theme, “Logistics, space, society as a shared discourse of multiple disciplines” defined the substantive framework of the meeting and emphasised its interdisciplinary character.

The conference was held under the Honorary Patronage of:

  • His Magnificence, the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Prof. Piotr Stepnowski,
  • the Mayor of the City of Sopot, Magdalena Czarzyńska-Jachim,
  • the Mayor of the City of Gdynia, Aleksandra Kosiorek,
  • the Metropolitan Institute.

which constituted an important confirmation of the event’s prestige and the relevance of the issues addressed.

 

The opening address was delivered by Julia Łaska, President of the Logistics Students' Club, who welcomed the invited guests, speakers and participants. This was followed by an address by Dr. Leszek Reszka, prof. UG, who, on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Dr hab. Wojciech Bizon, prof. UG, expressed his appreciation for the attendees’ presence and introduced the participants to the conference theme. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of logistics support in the implementation of all intentional human activity, both in business and social contexts. The inaugural session concluded with an address by the Vice Mayor of the City of Gdynia, Rafał Geremek, who referred to the practical aspects of logistics functioning within urban and metropolitan structures.

The conference program comprised three thematic panels: the Expert Local Government Panel, the Expert Business Panel, and the Young Researchers’ Session, enabling a multifaceted perspective on logistics from academic, institutional and practical viewpoints.

The Expert Local Government Panel, moderated by Patrycja Cyman, focused on issues related to urban logistics, spatial planning and the functioning of transport systems in metropolitan areas. The panel featured the following participants:

  • Rafał Geremek - Vice-Mayor of the City of Gdynia, who discussed the historical and contemporary determinants of the development of the Port of Gdynia and related infrastructure investments,
  • dr Grażyna Chaberek-Kałużniak - Deputy Director of the Institute of Socio-Economic Geography and Spatial Economy, who addressed the relationship between logistics services and spatial planning, emphasising the importance of microplanning and cross-sector cooperation,
  • dr Jarosław Kempa - Deputy Chair of the City Council of Sopot and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, who presented an assessment of logistics operations in the Tricity area, highlighting infrastructural challenges and metropolitanisation processes,
  • dr Tomasz Konewka - Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PKA Sp. z o.o., Vice President of Norse Seafood and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, who presented issues concerning transport cohesion in Gdynia and the specificity of the local transport system.
  • mgr Kamil Olzacki - attorney-at-law and President of the Management Board of the Metropolitan Institute, who outlined issues related to spatial planning law and instruments for safeguarding spatial order,

The discussion focused on barriers and development directions of urban logistics, as well as the need for an integrated approach to spatial and transport planning.

 

he second part of the conference was the Expert Business Panel, moderated by Julia Łaska, devoted to business applications of logistics. The discussion involved:

  • Anna Krzyśko-Vaskowić - founder of Northgate Logistics and a member of the Audit Committee of the Polish Chamber of Forwarding and Logistics,
  • Olena Kobylchenko - ESG Manager at GS1 Poland.

The conversation addressed the impact of digitalisation, market volatility and regulations on business operations, future logistics competencies, and the development of organisational resilience.

 

The final part of the event was the Young Researchers’ Session, during which students and doctoral candidates presented the results of their scientific research, creating a space for the exchange of knowledge and experience. Additionally, they were given the opportunity to publish their scientific articles in the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk Scientific Papers “Nasze Studia”, the journal “Współczesna Gospodarka”, and the journal “PROGRESS”.

 

It is particularly noteworthy that the project for organising the Logistics Scientific Conference was among the awarded initiatives in the University of Gdańsk competition for student organisations, aimed at funding projects of a scientific and social nature. The obtained support enabled the event to be held at a high substantive and organisational level.

Logistics Scientific Conference became an important forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience, confirming that logistics, as a field of research and practice, requires dialogue between various disciplines and communities.

The organisers extend their sincere thanks to all speakers, honorary patrons, partners and participants for their engagement and active participation. The conference demonstrated that student initiatives can successfully contribute to academic debate and meaningfully support the development of science and the social life of the University of Gdańsk.
