Scientific Activity
Scientific activity, alongside teaching, is a priority for the Department of Logistics staff. Faculty members systematically develop their research skills by employing advanced scientific methods, techniques, and tools (including IT-based solutions). Research conducted at the Department aims to support the development of science on both theoretical and practical levels, facilitating the application of developed solutions in enterprises, other types of organizations, and the public space.
The Department’s researchers conduct scientific studies across various research areas. They primarily develop scientific approaches to defining logistics, logistics systems and processes, logistics support systems, supply chains, and related concepts collectively known and recognized as the "Sopot School of Logistics". Prof. Mirosław Chaberek, a long-term head of the Department of Logistics, initiated this school. The advancement of this approach contributes to solving scientific problems in all sectors of the economy, as evidenced by numerous scientific publications.
The research activities of the Department’s staff include the following areas:
- Identification, design, mapping, and modelling of logistics processes,
- Optimization of logistics processes,
- Controlling in logistics,
- Information logistics, including information management,
- Use of IT technologies in logistics,
- Logistics in the Industry 4.0 economy,
- Urban and suburban logistics,
- Regional logistics,
- Logistics for public sector,
- Logistics support for business,
- Logistics strategies,
- Supply chain management (including green supply chains and closed-loop supply chains),
- Functioning of the mobility services market and logistics services (including these associated with the sharing economy).
The research works developed at the Department are multidimensional and contribute to advancing the concept of logistics and its related notions regarding the functioning of various actors in supply chains across all sectors of the economy, including the public sector. These projects are implemented as part of national and international research initiatives and the Department's statutory activities.
The Department collaborates with numerous academic centers in Poland and abroad. Many research studies are conducted in cooperation with scholars from countries such as the Czech Republic, Ireland, Slovakia, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates.
