Workshop held as part of the project “Energy transition and society”

Warsztat w ramach projektu „Energy transition and society” na Wydziale Ekonomicznym UG

On 28 January 2026, a workshop held as part of the project “Energy transition and society: Attitudes towards the energy transition in the context of changing values in Poland and Germany”, funded by the Polish-German Foundation for Science, project no. 200-2025-00977, took place at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk.

The meeting on the Polish side was led by Dr hab. Anna Maria Nikodemska‑Wołowik, University of Gdańsk Professor, while the leader of the entire project – although not present at the workshop – is Prof. Dr Michael Bucksteeg from FernUniversität in Hagen. Dr Stefan Poier, a member of the research team, participated in the event online.

In this research project, the team focuses on explaining how values, trust in institutions, and conspiracy beliefs shape attitudes towards the energy transition, as well as the willingness of individual energy consumers to engage in pro‑environmental actions in Poland and Germany.

The workshop brought together international students, including particularly interested participants from Poland and Germany, as well as individuals from Finland, France, Spain, India, Italy and Vietnam. The cultural diversity of the group encouraged a lively discussion on how the challenges of the energy transition are perceived individually by energy consumers in different countries.

The discussion centred on issues related to the role and impact of stereotypes on assessments of environmental attitudes, including: What stereotypes concerning environmental behaviours do Poles attribute to Germans, and vice versa? What are the sources of these perceptions (media, history, personal contacts)? Can such stereotypes influence cooperation between countries in the field of energy?

The workshop constituted an important element in fostering academic dialogue and the exchange of perspectives among students representing diverse cultural backgrounds.

We thank the Students very much for their numerous attendance and active participation!
