Green University: Implementation of an Energy Management System in the University of Gdańsk Buildings in Sopot

The University of Gdańsk is implementing the "Green University" project, which aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce the university's environmental impact.

As part of the first stage of the project, a Central Energy Management System was implemented in the buildings of the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Management of the University of Gdańsk on Armii Krajowej Street in Sopot. The system enables ongoing monitoring of energy consumption and control of the buildings' technical installations, including through the use of intelligent thermostatic valves.

The first months of the system's operation confirm its effectiveness. In the first half of 2025, natural gas consumption was reduced by 12.65% at the Faculty of Economics and by 17.99% at the Faculty of Management, compared to the same period of the previous year. Significant savings in electricity used for heating and cooling were also recorded – over 22% in both facilities. This translated into a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, totaling nearly 13 Mg.

The first phase of the project was made possible thanks to funding from the Gdańsk Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, which supported the project with a loan and a grant.

The Central Energy Management System was installed by the University of Gdańsk's Technical Property Maintenance Department in December 2024 and recently received approval from the financing institution. The project is delivering tangible functional, economic, and ecological benefits, aligning with the University of Gdańsk's long-term sustainable development strategy.
