Oxford Debating Tournament at the Faculty of Economics on April 15, 2025

The Oxford Debate Tournament will be held at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk on April 15, 2025!

Students from eight secondary schools will compete against each other and discuss topics related to economics, ecology, and sustainable development!

The classic Oxford debate is an intellectual game in which two four-person teams discuss and argue concerning a previously presented thesis.

The debate aims to convince the jury and the audience of the arguments presented.

The participants of the Oxford debates draw a side, i.e. a position—whether they will be "for" or "against" the thesis. This means that they often defend views that are contrary to their beliefs, but thanks to this, they will get to know the narrative of the other side of the debate in detail.

The idea of the Oxford debate is to look at the problem from different perspectives and show that different parties to the dispute have their reasons and can look at the problem from different perspectives, based on different experiences and with respect to different levels of knowledge. Each side of the dispute deserves respect.

Participants of the Oxford Debate Tournament held at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk also take part in workshops to develop their communication, public speaking, and argumentation skills. The development of students participating in the tournament is the responsibility of the employees of our faculty and students, who share their experience and thoughts with younger colleagues. In this way, the tournament creates conditions for the development of skills of both students and pupils.

The tournament is held as part of the Pomeranian Academy of Young Explorers project, which is financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under the "Social Responsibility of Science II" program.
