SEA-EU universities launch joint English-language study programmes!

Uczelnie SEA-EU

The University of Gdańsk, together with the European coastal universities of the SEA-EU alliance, has created an offer of joint study programmes in English. Innovative, interdisciplinary and mobility-based curricula are tailored to the needs of the labor market in maritime industries - from port management through the blue economy to oceanographic research.

The joint courses of the SEA-EU alliance are Sea-BluE, STORM, MIPMAL, and interdisciplinary doctoral studies M&MS&T. The first students will start their studies this year!

– This unique offer provides students with several months of mobility and classes conducted by scientists from several European universities. Interdisciplinary study programs, rich experience of partner universities, modern infrastructure, activating teaching methods and focus on practical aspects of education provide students of standard courses with competences and experiences valued not only on the Polish but also the European labor market – said Vice-Rector for Education at the University of Gdańsk, Dr Ewa Szymczak, professor at the University of Gdańsk. – Therefore, optimistic comments and positive assessments from members of accreditation committees from France, Spain, and Croatia are not surprising.

The educational offer of the SEA-EU alliance includes the following majors:

  • Sustainable Blue Economy (Sea-BluE) – first cycle studies;
  • Port Management and Logistics (MIPMAL) – second cycle studies;
  • Sustainability Transition for Organizations and Resilience Management (STORM) – second-cycle studies;
  • Marine and Maritime Sciences and Technologies – doctoral studies

All courses have received international accreditation, which guarantees their recognition throughout Europe. Completing the joint SEA-EU studies is associated with obtaining a diploma in a joint course of the European University. Accrediting institutions paid attention to, among others, interdisciplinarity, high quality of materials for students, excellent teaching staff and offering diversified specialisation paths.

The good preparation of joint studies in the context of the current needs of the labor market was also emphasised. The content of education in all fields of study was consulted with representatives of the business world to provide graduates with the most sought-after competencies. Both in bachelor's and master's studies, students can choose a research project or a project resulting from the internship/traineeship as part of the diploma.

The study program assumes at least 6 months of mobility (in the case of Sea-BluE, it is at least 12 months). This means that students of joint SEA-EU fields will spend at least a semester at another SEA-EU partner university on the coast. The purpose of such mobility may be, among others, the University of Cadiz (Spain), the University of Western Brittany in Brest (France), the University of Split (Croatia), the University of Malta or the University of Nord (Norway). It is worth emphasising that in most cases, the leading host institution is not the University of Gdańsk, but one of the other SEA-EU partner universities.

– As part of the SEA-EU alliance, we have been increasing the internationalisation of the University of Gdańsk for 5 years now. Today, we are pleased to present a fully international offer of studies, which has been an initiative of the seaside alliance from beginning to end. This is proof of the growing strength of our cooperation! – says Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Internationalization, dr hab. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, prof. UG. – Each year, it is more and more visible that the future of European education lies in alliances of European universities. Thanks to this program, we implement ambitious projects and introduce innovations to Polish universities.

About the courses

Sea-BluE

Sea-BluE studies combine issues related to the maritime economy with management and business basics. By choosing Sea-BluE, students enter a well-thought-out development path, in which each year of study is devoted to acquiring a different type of competence and knowledge. The first year is committed to building basic knowledge, the second to learning advanced tools and sustainable practices in management and economics, and the third to specialisation at one of 6 universities. Students can specialise, among others, in the impact of human activity on the Arctic at the University of Nord, located beyond the Arctic Circle, or tourist cities in Split, Croatia.

STORM

STORM is a study program for people who want to become conscious and ready for anything, and managers and leaders of sustainable transformation in their institutions. Graduates of the programme will be highly qualified, flexible professionals, equipped with the necessary skills and competencies to work, lead and develop in various management positions in private corporations, voluntary organisations and management institutions operating in an increasingly uncertain environment.

MIPMAL

MIPMAL is a gateway to a career in maritime logistics and port management. Thanks to the practical path, graduates have one foot in the maritime economy even before receiving their diploma. Moreover, the programme responds to the growing demand for qualified port and logistics management specialists.

SEA-EU Doctoral Programme

The Joint Doctoral Programme in Marine Science and Technology focuses on studying issues related to the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources.
