2nd Edition of the Model United Nations Conference at the Faculty of Economics
From June 12th to 14th, 2026, the second edition of the international simulation of the United Nations, the Monte Cassino Model United Nations 2026, took place at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk.
A total of 260 delegates, moderators, and volunteers from Poland and abroad participated in the event.
The conference provided a unique opportunity for participants to assume the role of delegates from selected countries and speak on issues concerning, among others, security, international politics, women's rights, environmental protection, health, humanitarian aid, and combating crime.
The conference was opened and welcomed by Mr Aleksander Montana, Secretary General and main organizer of CASMUN.
Dr Magdalena Markiewicz, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk, next spoke, representing the University of Gdańsk, the honorary patron of the event.
The conference opening was graced by distinguished guests: Ms Magdalena Czarzyńska-Jachim, Mayor of Sopot, then Mr Marcin Skwierawski, Deputy Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, followed by Ms Weronika Haustein, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Norway, Mr Janusz Lewandowski, Member of the European Parliament, Mr Jarosław Wałęsa, Member of the Polish Parliament, and Robert Grisdale, CEO and Principal of the British International School Gdańsk, and representatives of the Youth City Council of Sopot and the Youth Regional Assembly of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Hosting the Model United Nations conference at the Faculty of Economics was a natural way to bridge theory and practice. Students of International Economic Relations and Economics study the mechanisms of international cooperation and the role of organizations such as the United Nations as part of their academic curriculum. At the same time, MUN provides high school and university students with a unique opportunity to experience diplomacy and negotiation in practice.
Events like CASMUN 2026 foster a sense of empowerment among young people, a sense of responsibility for society, and skills that will serve them well in their future careers, including the art of negotiation and compromise, public speaking, and expressing opinions on important issues.
CASMUN 2026 also provided an opportunity to meet peers with similar interests and to practice English, the conference's official language. We congratulate the organizers and the young people participating in the conference for their initiative and great commitment.
