Success of University of Gdańsk Faculty of Economics Students in the 4th Edition of the LSEG Research Grant Competition
The 4th edition of the LSEG Research Grant Competition, organised jointly by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk and LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group), has come to a close.
The aim of this valuable initiative is to support students’ academic development through ambitious research projects addressing current economic and financial challenges.
This year’s edition once again confirmed the high academic quality of the projects prepared by University of Gdańsk students. The five finalists presented research on topics including tokenised ETFs under the MiCA regulatory framework, the impact of geopolitical events on financial market behaviour, the use of sentiment analysis in forecasting logistics costs, reputational risk management in the banking sector, and the application of sentiment analysis to predict market behaviour.

Their commitment, analytical skills, innovative approach to research, and willingness to tackle complex topics demonstrate the remarkable academic potential of the students of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk.
The total prize pool in this year’s competition amounted to PLN 40,000. In addition to the Main Grants, Special Grants were awarded for the best presentation, excellence in data analysis, and the most innovative solution.
The students presented their projects before an international jury at the London Stock Exchange Group office in Gdynia.

Awarded for the outstanding quality of her final presentation, including clarity of communication, ability to engage the audience, fluency and professionalism, as well as the aesthetic quality and visual clarity of the presentation materials.

Wiktor Linowiecki – News as a Market Driver: From Traditional Media to Algorithmic Sentiment Analysis and Real-Time Market Prediction
Awarded for a comprehensive, meticulous, and transparent approach to working with data, advanced analytical methods, reliability and clarity of conclusions, and the quality of their interpretation.

Shuo Yang – Predicting EU–US Logistics Cost Volatility Using Real-Time News Sentiment Analysis – A Machine Learning Approach Integrating LSEG News Analytics and Freight Market Data
Awarded for a unique approach to the research topic, advanced analytical methods, reliability and clarity of conclusions, and the quality of their interpretation.
