Farewell to Professor Konrad Misztal

Pożegnanie prof. dra hab. Konrad Misztal

It is with deep sorrow that we received the news of the passing, on April 23, 2026, of Prof. Konrad Misztal, PhD, DSc – an outstanding representative of maritime transport economics, who was professionally associated with the University of Gdańsk throughout his entire career.

 

Professor Konrad Misztal was a co-founder and a pillar of the Gdańsk Center for Maritime Economy Research. From 1961, he worked first at the Institute of Maritime Transport Economics, and later at the Institute of Maritime Transport and Trade at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk, where he also held managerial positions, including that of Institute Director.

 

The academic achievements of Prof. Konrad Misztal focused on the functioning of ports and the role of maritime transport in the economy. He combined academic work with practical application, serving as an expert and collaborating with public administration and international institutions, including the World Bank. He had a tangible impact on the directions of development of Polish maritime policy and the port sector.
 

The passing of Professor Misztal is a significant loss to the academic community and the entire maritime economy. For many generations of students and colleagues, he will remain an exceptionally kind academic teacher and a true authority in his field.

The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Chapel by St. Mary’s Basilica in Gdańsk (ul. Św. Ducha 58).
The funeral will take place at 12:45 p.m. at the Łostowice Cemetery in Gdańsk, from the gate at ul. Cedrowa.
