On the Present and Future of Doctoral Schools – Representative of Our Faculty at the Conference in Wrocław
On 16-17 April 2026, the 4th National Conference of Doctoral Schools was held in Wrocław, hosted by University of Wrocław. Our Faculty was represented by Prof. Leszek Czerwonka of the University of Gdańsk, Deputy Dean for Research and Head of the Doctoral School at the Faculty of Economics.
The conference brought together representatives of 98 doctoral schools from across the country, representing the leading academic, technical, medical, artistic institutions, as well as research institutes. These schools educate 84% of all doctoral students in Poland, which highlights the importance of the event and the significance of the issues discussed during the proceedings.
The conference was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Research Evaluation Committee, the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates, university authorities, and representatives of local government. The presence of such a broad group of stakeholders created an excellent opportunity for substantive debate on the future of higher education and doctoral training.
The programme included numerous thematic sessions devoted, among others, to the functioning of doctoral schools after six years of the current regulations, quality evaluation in doctoral education, cooperation with doctoral student self-government bodies, the role of artificial intelligence in research, teaching and administration, as well as the place of doctoral schools within the wider social environment.
The participation of our Faculty’s representative in the conference proved highly fruitful. Meetings with representatives of other universities, experts, and institutions responsible for science policy enabled the exchange of experiences, the identification of good practices, and the establishment of valuable contacts that may contribute to the further development of our Doctoral School and the enhancement of doctoral education quality.
