Invitation to the “Fake Busters” Competition

The University of Warsaw invites undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and graduate (Master’s) students, as well as PhD candidates, to take part in the nationwide “Fake Busters” competition. The aim of the competition is to develop skills in identifying and analyzing disinformation activities. It is an opportunity for those who want to learn how to verify information effectively, work with data, and navigate a world full of fake news in a conscious and responsible way.
The competition is part of the “Science Checks” (Nauka Sprawdza) project, implemented by the Centre for Cooperation and Dialogue at the University of Warsaw and funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It consists of three stages:
- Stage I (pre-selection) – a knowledge test (40 questions); registration and completion of the initial task are open until 20 February 2026.
- Stage II – four tasks completed remotely over the course of four weeks (until the end of March 2026).
- Final stage – an on-site hackathon at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw (April 2026), concluding with an awards ceremony.
Top participants will receive material prizes, as well as the opportunity to obtain internships or placements with the competition’s partners — institutions and organizations involved in combating disinformation and analyzing large datasets.
