Cybersecurity in Practice – lecture with Paulina Krakowska from PKO BP
On 9 December 2025, students of the International Economic Relations programme had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Paulina Krakowska, an expert from the Cybersecurity Department at PKO BP. For years, she has been involved in analysing and counteracting online fraud and payment-related abuses. Her mission is to raise awareness of cyber threats and promote responsible, safe digital behaviour.
During the lecture, the speaker discussed the most common types of cyberattacks, such as phishing, spoofing, malware, and identity theft, explaining how they work and which user mistakes cybercriminals most often exploit. She drew particular attention to real examples from banking practice, illustrating how quickly and effectively fraudsters can operate.
Ms. Paulina Krakowska also emphasised the importance of cyber hygiene, including caution when sharing personal data, verifying information sources, regularly updating software, and using strong, unique passwords. She highlighted that education, both for clients and employees of financial institutions, is one of the most effective tools in combating cybercrime.
The lecture helped participants gain a better understanding of current challenges in digital security and highlighted the importance of responsible habits when using online services. The meeting also provided space for questions and discussion on practical aspects of data protection and secure banking.
The lecture was organised under the supervision of dr Magdalena Markiewicz and dr Tomasz Czuba.
