Lecture “From Economic Missions to Economic Diplomacy” with the participation of the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Milan

On November 4, 2025, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk hosted lectures entitled “From Economic Missions to Economic Diplomacy”, delivered by Ms. Anna Golec-Mastroianni, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Milan in 2022–2024.

The aim of the lecture was to present the role of economic diplomacy in national development and the internationalization of enterprises from a practical perspective, drawing on the speaker’s extensive experience in public service both in Poland and abroad.

Ms. Anna Golec-Mastroianni discussed the evolution of the concept of economic diplomacy in Poland, the role of institutions supporting economic expansion (including PAIH, embassies, and consulates), as well as the importance of public-private cooperation in the internationalization of the economy.

The lecture also presented examples of economic diplomacy tools, such as trade missions, business forums, fairs, and trade agreements, which constitute an essential element in building economic security and fostering innovation. The meeting concluded with a discussion on the current strategic framework of Poland’s economic diplomacy, the identification of priority markets and strategic sectors, and a reflection on how geopolitical conditions influence Poland’s international activities.

The event was part of the Faculty of Economics’ ongoing efforts to advance the internationalization of education, develop students’ intercultural competences, and strengthen cooperation with representatives of public administration and economic diplomacy.

The event was coordinated by Dr Magdalena Markiewicz, Vice-Dean for Development and Cooperation with the Socio-Economic Environment at the Faculty of Economics, University of Gdańsk.

Approximately 120 students of various specializations participated in the lecture as part of the Polish- and English-taught study programmes International Economic Relations and International Business.
