The lecture "Poland, Europe in Times of Uncertainty" by Prof. Marek Belka 14.10.2025
On October 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM in auditorium B4 of the Faculty of Management in Sopot, Prof. Marek Belka will deliver a lecture entitled "Poland, Europe in Times of Uncertainty."
Professor Marek Belka is an outstanding economist and politician, Prime Minister from 2004 to 2005, and President of the National Bank of Poland from 2010 to 2016.
The scientist was born in Łódź and became affiliated with the University of Łódź. He divided his subsequent years between his beloved city, the capital, and Brussels. In 1990, he became an advisor and consultant at the Ministry of Finance. In the following years, his involvement in Polish politics increased. He served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in 1997 in Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz's government, and from 2001 to 2002 in Leszek Miller's government. From May 2, 2004, to October 31, 2005, he served as Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland. In 2010, he was elected to a six-year term as President of the National Bank of Poland. In the previous term, he served as a Member of the European Parliament.
The economist has published over 100 scientific papers, primarily devoted to monetary theory and anti-inflationary policies in developing countries. He specializes in applied economics and contemporary economic thought. He is a member of the Committee on Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Professor Marek Belka will hold the Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Honorary Chair at the University of Gdansk in the 2025/2026 academic year.
