University of Gdańsk as strategic contractor in the LIFE Pom GOZilla.PL project
The Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Management of the University of Gdańsk will be involved as strategic contractors in the work on the implementation of the LIFE Pom GOZilla.PL project, conducted under the European Commission LIFE program.
The amount of co-financing for tasks performed at the University of Gdańsk is over EUR 2 million.
The main objective of the project is to create conditions in the Pomeranian Voivodeship that are conducive to the effective implementation of the provisions of the Waste Management Plan for the Pomeranian Voivodeship (PGOWP) in the field of rational management of municipal waste, in particular the principles resulting from the hierarchy of waste management methods and the assumptions of the circular economy. Such an economy is guided by the principles of "reduce, reuse, recycle" (3R - reduce, reuse, recycle).
The project is to contribute to changing the way waste is handled, first in the Pomeranian Voivodeship; then, the developed solutions can be implemented throughout the country, adapting waste management to the requirements of EU law.
The tasks for which the University of Gdańsk will be responsible will be carried out at three faculties.
Pilot studies on the management of bio-waste fractions at source, assessment of their potential and promotion of proper waste management will be carried out by the Faculty of Chemistry.
The Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Management will be responsible for organizing the UG Competence Center for local governments, within which postgraduate studies and training will be conducted based on identified needs through the research diagnosis.
The project on the UG side is managed by prof. dr hab. Ewa Siedlecka, and the coordinators of individual tasks are dr Aleksandra Bielicka-Giełdoń (WCH), dr Magdalena Markiewicz (WE) and dr hab. Anna Wojewnik-Filipkowska (WZ).
The project, led by the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, will be implemented from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2035.
