Solidarity Economics
Prof. Marek Szczepaniec from the Faculty of Economics, gave a lecture on "Solidarity Economics in Solving Socio-Economic Problems" during the November seminar "Solidarity Now!" organized at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Gdańsk in cooperation with the Gdańsk Scientific Society and the Centre for Student and Doctoral Activity.
The meeting, organized on 28th November 2024, was an opportunity to reflect on this fundamental concept, share years of result research, and offer a clearer perspective on the issue.
The participants discussed during a seminar how the world often refers to solidarity but frequently remains less than hospitable to it. In an era of individual freedoms, which are the foundation of our modern imagination and sensibility, there is a risk that the ability to go beyond oneself in favor of others can be pushed to the sidelines.
The future of the idea of solidarity was also discussed in the context of contemporary challenges such as migration, armed conflicts, and simplistic populist answers to the complex questions we face today.
The meeting was an important step in the search for a more understandable and practical approach to solidarity, encouraging deeper reflection on its meaning and relevance in today’s world.
