InfoGlobMar'14

On the June 6, 2014 in Sopot at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk took place the 6th Science Conference - "InfoGlobMar 2014". This year's edition of the conference was organized by the Institute of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade in cooperation with the Departments of Logistics and Transport Systems as well as the Department of Economics and Management from the Gdynia Maritime University. The range of the topics of the conference concerned the main areas of scientific research conducted at the Institute of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade and Departments co-organizers. During the conference, the current problems of theory and practice concerning the directions of the economic development and the enterprises were discussed. The honorary patronage over the conference was assumed by: the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development- Elżbieta Bieńkowska, The Mayor of the City of Gdańsk - Paweł Adamowicz, His magnificent prof. zw. dr hab. Bernard Lammek, Rector of the University of Gdańsk, His magnificent Rector of the Gdynia Maritime University – prof. zw. dr hab. Piotr Jędrzejowicz. The media patronage of the conference was taken by the magazine “Logistyka” and the portal gospodarkamorska.pl The partners of the conference were the Polish Maritime Cluster, the Team of Logistics and Transport Processes at the Transport Committee of Polish Academy of Sciences. The chairman of the Scientific Council was prof. zw. dr hab. Janusz Żurek.

 

In debates took part employees of the Institute of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade (the University of Gdańsk) and the Gdynia Maritime University, the representatives of the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, the Gdańsk University of Technology, the University of Zielona Góra, the University of Gdańsk, the University of Economics in Katowice, the University of Szczecin, the Polish Naval Academy, the WSB University in Gdańsk, the University of Business and Administration in Gdynia, the Maritime Institute in Gdańsk, the Sea Operations Center in Gdynia, the Corporate Social Responsibility, and the representatives of business practice such as the Port of Gdynia Authority, the Port of Gdansk Authority SA and the Polish Chamber for Forwarding and Logistics.

 

The result of the meeting are 3 monographs, containing the papers presented and sent at the conference:

There have been 45 articles published in 12 different academic centers in monographs and 3 articles in the electronic magazine Contemporary Economy. As previous years, the conference was divided into plenary, and thematic sessions.

 

The first part of the conference, chaired by prof. dr hab. Janusz Żurek oraz prof. UG, dr hab. Jerzy Gwizdała, concerned the challenges faced by Poland and Polish companies from the perspective of the role of the social capital, the business risk, the Internet and methods of artificial intelligence. The interesting papers were delivered by prof. SGH, dr hab. Halina Brdulak (the SGH Warsaw School of Economics) - The role of social capital in dynamic supply chains. New challenges, Julian Skelnik (Director of International Relations and PR, The Port of Gdansk Authority SA) - Challenges facing Polish seaports on the example of the Port of Gdańsk, Jan Lewko (Marketing Manager, The Port of Gdynia Authority SA) - Challenges facing Polish seaports on the example of the Port of Gdynia, prof. UG, dr hab. Jerzy Gwizdała (the University of Gdańsk) – The role of audit and internal control in limiting the company risk, prof. UG, dr hab. Eugeniusz Gostomski, dr Tomasz Michałowski (the University of Gdańsk) - The role of the Internet in international trade, prof. UG, dr hab. Jerzy Zemke (the University of Gdańsk) - The risk of long-term liabilities, prof. PG, dr hab. inż. Jerzy Balicki (the Gdańsk University of Technology) - Methods of artificial intelligence to predict the systemic risk of bank IT systems.

 

The second part of the meeting was held in three problem teams:

Team 1 - A company in a global environment;

Team 2 - Challenges and problems of maritime transport;

Team 3 – A business risk.

 

The role of moderator of the Team 1 was held by prof. dr hab. Janusz Żurek (the University of Gdańsk). The role of moderator of the Team 2, dedicated to the challenges and problems of maritime transport, was held by prof. dr hab. Andrzej S. Grzelakowski – the chairman (the Maritime Institute in Gdańsk) and prof. dr hab. Jerzy Kujawa (the University of Gdańsk). A business risk was the subject of the third panel led by prof. PG, dr hab. inż. Jerzy Balickim (the Gdańsk University of Technology).
