The Division’s main objective is teaching and researching in the area of international economic relations/ international economics.

Within over forty year history of the Division (it was established in 1968 within the predecessor of the University of Gdańsk – Higher School of Economics, primarily as an individual chair, later incorporated into the Institute of International Business) the research and studies, as well as didactic objectives have been significantly broadened and diversified, reflecting the changing environment in the Polish and world economy.

Our teaching contributes to various programmes that the University of Gdańsk offers in the fields of economics and international economic relations, as well as other fields complementing different noneconomic programmes. Our staff members lecture at the Faculty of Economics, as well as other faculties of the University of Gdańsk.

Main compulsory courses:

  • International economic relations I and II
  • Globalization and regionalization of world economy.
  • Business cycles
  • International competitiveness
  • World economy

The courses are taught both in Polish and English.

The courses are prepared for regular Bachelor and Master students, they are also available for extramural students as well as within doctoral studies and MBA programme.

Apart of these courses the staff members have prepared several facultative courses on vital economic problems of the contemporary world economy, among them:

  • European Union Enlargement – doing business in Poland,
  • Australia- your partner in business
  • External Relations of the European Union,
  • WTO System and International Trade Policy,
  • Migration Management,
  • Interpersonal and Intercultural Communication in Business,
  • Dealing Room

The Diviosion is also responsible for numerous tutorials and seminars on bachelor, master and doctoral level, which involve small groups of students and a member of staff. They provide an opportunity for active discussion on relevant topics and help to develop transferable skills, such as communication and teamwork and offer a platform for students to participate fully in their learning process.

Besides the didactic activity, the staff of the Division is involved in research work, which is designed by the need of permanent verification and expansion of the knowledge transferred to students as well as by the necessity of solving actual problems met in economic praxis. The effects of the research work are published in many books, articles and presented at domestic and international scientific conferences.

  • Factor movement
  • International economic organizations
  • International competitiveness


The Divsion has long-standing co-operation with many Polish and foreign universities all over the world. The staff members are initiators of the majority of contacts and exchange programmes of the Institute of International Business.
