Professor Jan Winiecki

Professor Jan Winiecki was born in 1938 in Sopot. He is a distinguished economist specializing in macroeconomics, comparative literature, and the system of international economic relations. In 1964-1982 Professor Winiecki was a member of the Communist Party; 1971-1973 Head of the  Economic Policy Institute in CINTE. In 1973-1982 he was a Research Fellow of the Institute of International Affairs, in 1983-1984 a member of the Polish Academy of Science (dismissed for political reasons); in 1985-1989 he was a researcher at the Institute of Labour and Social and Economic Advisor of Solidarity, 1986-1990 Catholic University lecturer and since 1990 a professor at Aalborg University (Denmark). Professor Jan Winiecki is a founder and the President of the Center for Adam Smith (1990).

In 1991-1993 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Since 1994 he is a professor of European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). Professor Winiecki is a co-founder and a president of the Society of Polish Economists (TEP).

In 2001 he received the honoris causa doctorate from the University of Gdańsk for achievements in the field of international economic relations, outstanding and recognized in the world science, and works on processes of economic growth and economic transformation in Poland and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the theoretical and practical contribution to the task of rebuilding the economic system Polish in the nineties by the activity of association, working in international organizations and the popularization of the achievements of Polish transformation in the world, dedication to return to the Polish market economy, achievements in promoting Polish science in the world of integrity in scientific research and extensive knowledge.
