Declaration of Social Responsibility

On November 16, 2017 the Ministry of Development held a conference entitled "Social Responsibility of Science - Challenges for the Academic and Business". Co-organizers of the conference were: Ministry of Development, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Leon Kozminski University, Conference of Financial Enterprises in Poland, Responsible Business Forum and Warsaw School of Economics

At the conference there was a solemn signing of the Declaration of Social Responsibility of the University by the rectors of 23 Polish universities. On behalf of the University of Gdansk, the Vice-Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski has signed the Declaration

The draft of the Declaration was developed by the Working Group on Education and Popularization of CSR, functioning within the Team for Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility, the subsidiary body of the Minister for Development and Finance. On behalf of the Faculty of Economics Prof. UG, dr hab. Barbara Pawłowska has participated in the work of this group.

The role of the university is emphasized in the Declaration, as the place for the creation and transfer of knowledge and the maintenance of academic values. As the need to shape the social and civic attitudes of future leaders was recognized, it raised the importance of ethical principles and the need to promote the idea of equality, diversity, tolerance, and the respect and protection of human rights. Attention has also been paid to the importance of cooperation between the scientific community and business - thanks to it the development of scientific research and implementation works that offer the opportunity to solve various problems.
