Master students of the Faculty of Economics succeeded in the 12th edition of the FINSIM Academic League 2023/2024 Competition, taking 5th place out of 10 teams nationwide.

The group was created by:

Marcin Antczak, International Economic Relations, specialization International Finance and Banking, 1st year of full-time studies,

Julia Dudalska, Economics, specialization Finance in Enterprise ACCA, 1st year of part-time studies,

Martyna Olender, Economics, specialization Finance in Business ACCA, 1st year of part-time studies,

Przemysław Sadowski, International Economic Relations, specialization International Finance and Banking, 1st year of full-time studies,

Patryk Węglewski, Economics, specialization Finance in Enterprise ACCA, 1st year of part-time studies.

Forming the UniVerek Bank GDN S.A. management team, they competed against students from universities across Poland, such as the University of Economics in Katowice, the University of Zielona Gora, the University of Economics in Krakow, the University of Rzeszow, the Rzeszow University of Technology, the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, the University of Economics in Poznan, the University of Lodz and the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.

In the competition, the Teams managed fictitious banks for 8 quarters, equivalent to 2 years of operation. The decisions concerned the management of the bank's assets and liabilities, as well as other decisions, including decisions on marketing strategies, payroll policy, or investments. The goal of the actions was to maximize shareholder value, and their effectiveness was evaluated based on the bank's share price and the credit rating obtained.

The competition was conducted under the supervision of Mentors and experienced bankers Andrzej Rygiel and Michal Bellwon. The culmination of the efforts of all the Teams was the General Meeting of Shareholders on June 6, 2024. During this meeting, the leaders of each bank presented the strategy adopted by the Board of Directors and the results achieved, which allowed for further competition decisions until the last one—the final one.

This experience was undoubtedly quite a challenge for the Team, allowing them to delve into the fascinating world of banking and finance and use the knowledge gained during their studies in practice. The Team, making successive decisions as the Bank's Board of Directors, understood better and better the mechanisms governing the simulation and the banking world, which allowed them to make successive decisions and overcome the obstacles occurring in the simulation game, such as the outbreak of a pandemic or war. The competition made it possible to gain a great deal of additional knowledge, interesting insights, and conclusions about bank management and, in a sense, to verify plans for the future.

The Warsaw Banking Institute organized the competition under the auspices of the Polish Bank Association and with the support of PWC, the Bank Guarantee Fund, the National Development Bank, and the National Bank of Poland.

We keep our fingers crossed for the further success of the students!
