Project "Innovative didactics..." completion

The project "Innovative teaching - the lecturers of the Faculty of Economics competences development" was carried out in the period from 01/09/2017 to 31/05/2019 as part of the Operational Program Knowledge Education Development Axis III. Higher education for economy and development, Measure 3.4. Management in higher education institutions.

Project manager: dr Magdalena Markiewicz, Vice-dean for Development and Cooperation with Business of the Faculty of Economics, University of Gdańsk.

The project was co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund. Co-financing of the EU project was: PLN 140 650.00.


40 lecturers from the Faculty of Economics participating in a total of 582 h of lectures and workshops as part of the project not only increased didactic competence in the areas defined by project assumptions, but also implemented new skills in the courses taught in the fields of Economics, International Economic Relations (including the International Business specialization) in Polish and in English.


The main objective of the project was achieved by the following specific objectives:

  1. Increasing the competence in the field of didactics in English. Program scope within the course of Teaching English for Professional Purposes was designed to create the opportunity for participants of the workshops to use linguistic elements in the context of didactic interests (including the area of economics and finance, as well as quality and management sciences) and their use in practice (academic writing, academic speaking). The aim of the language course run by lecturers of the Foreign Languages Centre at the University of Gdansk as part of the project was to acquire skills in English in the university's work environment at the level of min. C1. Workshop participants gained competences in the field of effective communication in the university environment related to didactic work.
  2. Implementation of innovative teaching skills (learning-by doing using the Case Study method, Design Thinking method) - application to prepare classes, moderate discussions and engage students. The participants learned the specifics of the data collection process, the structure of case studies and the preparation of didactic instructions, in the area of conducting classes with the case study method and creating a case study according to the best worldwide recognized models.
    The Design Thinking Moderator course involved the presentation of the design thinking tools and methodologies, allowing students to introduce innovative methods of researching and analyzing problems, prototyping and project implementation based on a creative and multidisciplinary approach.
  3. Improvement of IT competences through participation in workshops using the data analysis program, including Statistica and MS Excel. The Statistica training was focused on acquiring the ability to correctly assess the quality of information obtained from available databases and to conduct research and the ability to interpret it properly. During the MS Excel training at the advanced level, participants gained the skills of fast and efficient data processing and visualization, work with databases and pivot tables, preparation of dynamic charts and 3D maps, as well as data modeling using Power Pivot, Power Query and Analysis ToolPak.
