The Polish Economic Society

The Polish Economic Society is an association with a long tradition, gathering both economic theorists and practitioners of economic life. The statutory goals are related to the popularization of economic knowledge, opinion-forming activity, as well as the integration of the economic community. These goals are realized during "Thursdays at Economists", which are held regularly in Warsaw at the seat of the National Board, numerous seminars, as well as meetings of authors of awarded economic publications.

All local activities, including scientific meetings, conferences, and seminars, as well as training, are carried out by PES branches. The Polish Economic Society, Branch in Gdańsk, with its seat in Sopot, operates in the region.

The branch, whose first president was Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski - the "builder of Gdynia" and an honorary doctor of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk, boasts over seventy years of tradition in Gdańsk Pomerania.

Among the statutory goals of the Branch, which are an extension of the general goals of the Society, there are, inter alia, carrying out a special mission related to respecting the maritime traditions of the Branch, as well as promoting gifted school and university youth.

On September 9, 2020, a framework agreement on cooperation between the Faculty of Economics and the Polish Economic Society, Branch in Gdańsk (Agreement with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk) was signed, which formally confirms the long-term and close relationships of both entities in the field of promoting economic culture in the society of our region, the organization of the Economic Knowledge Olympiad and scientific discussions on current socio-economic issues.

It is worth noting that the members of the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Economic Society are largely academic staff from Pomeranian universities, including the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk.

The Polish Economic Society is also the organizer of nationwide congresses. The 10th edition of the Congress of Polish Economists, under the slogan "Economists for development", was held on November 28-29, 2019. This event, held every few years, attracts many distinguished guests both from Poland and abroad and is a platform for meeting different views on socio-economic issues. The last Congress was honored by a speech by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, who assessed the last three decades of the Polish economic transformation.

We also recommend the publications issued by the Polish Economic Society (http://www.pte.pl/), mainly devoted to the achievements of the winners of the Bank of Sweden Award. Alfred Nobel in the field of economics, as well as widely discussed problems of contemporary socio-economic systems.
