December meeting of the Expert Council

On December 14, 2017 another meeting of the Expert Council of the Economic Department of the University of Gdańsk took place. The place of meeting was the Harbor Master's Office in Gdańsk, thanks to courtesy and invitation of the Port of Gdansk Maritime Authority.

Participants were greeted by: Dean of the Faculty of Economics, dr hab. Monika Bąk, prof. UG and a member of the Board of Experts, representative of the Port of Gdansk Maritime Administration, Mr. Michał Stupak.

The meeting was dedicated to Smart Specialization of Pomerania (offshore and port-logistics technologies).


In the substantive part Ms. Karolina Lipińska, Deputy Director for Enterprise and Innovation Development, Department of Economic Development of the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship presented "Smart Specializations of Pomerania and the development of maritime economy", focusing on the idea and implementation process of smart specializations and the participation of Pomeranian companies and universities in related projects.



The next point of the agenda was the presentation of current market trends in maritime transport. The following speakers took the floor: Mr Dominik Landa, Director of the Commercial Department of DCT Gdansk SA, representative of the 'Deepwater Container Terminal' from the Northern Port and Mr Patryk Osuch, representative of the transport and logistics company 'Adampol' located in the Free Customs Area.


 


Further discussion focused on the issues of cooperation between universities and business and projects in the area of maritime economy development. Dr Ernest Czermański, Deputy Director of the Maritime Transport and Trade Institute at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk shared his reflections on this topic.



Information about their experiences and projects for the future was presented by students from the Maritime Science Club, who established many contacts important for the future activity.




The meeting was run by the Vice-Dean for Development and Cooperation with Business, dr Magdalena Markiewicz.

During the lobby talks, several new interesting ventures were discussed in the framework of cooperation between the academic staff of the Faculty of Economics and the business community in the context of the development of Smart Specializations of Pomerania and cooperation of business and science in the development of Poland's maritime economy.
