List of topics/areas of research projects

  • Inflation and macro-economic uncertainty

Some market and investment insights worth to keep in mind

  • How diversity and inclusion drive ESG globally/in various regions?
  • COP26: Final days a final chance to mitigate climate change?
  • COVID-19 derails recovery in ASEAN economies?
  • How might AI impact investment management?
  • What does the end of LIBOR mean for €STR adoption?

Some other paths that might be explored

  • Analyse the long-term impact of frost events in Southeast Brazil on Brazilian coffee yields and prices during 2-3 consecutive seasons after appearance.
  • Considering global warming, what are the risks and benefits of the extended growing season for spring crops in the Northern Hemisphere? Try to model the season’s duration based on the recent increase in temperature across Europe.
  • Climate/Past weather analysis: What is the trend of Polar Vortex strength over the last 30 years? Are cold outbreaks during the winter less or more frequent and why?
  • What was the impact of the pandemic in gas consumption in Europe? Are long-lasting consequences of the pandemic expected in gas consumption (demand destruction)? Compare with other regions where lockdowns were extended for a longer period of time.
  • Does the reduction of Russian gas to Europe affected the price of other energy sources (i.e., LNG, coal or renewables)? If there is any relation, explain its mechanisms.
  • What is the role of psychology and sociology in the business and economy?

Method

Think about what tool you will use to analyze the topic. These can be surveys or interviews, you can choose statistical or econometric data analysis. The choice is yours!

We encourage you to use the LSEG EIKON database. The database is available at the LSEG Lab (p. 402 at the Faculty of Economics)

Your tasks

Application first! In the application, describe what you want to study and how, where you will get the data from, what is the purpose of the research, and what are the most important research questions.

You can declare the preparation and submission of an article, e.g. for student journals, or a presentation at a student's conference. You have time until March 2023. There are additional points for such a declaration, but remember that you do not have to do that! This is not a condition of participation in the competition! The application deadline is November 30, 2023, at 23:59!

The authors of the best proposals will be asked to prepare and present the initial results of your projects in the form of a presentation or scientific poster. Remember that this presentation will determine the awarding of prizes! Convince us that you will implement the project. You can prepare your presentation/poster in Polish or English.

You have to submit your presentations/posters by March 18, 2023, and present them during a session in April 2024. Show us what we've done! If you have chosen a presentation, prepare a presentation for max. 15 minutes. If you have a poster, we will conduct a poster session during which we will ask you a few questions.

If you convince us that you are on the right track to finishing the project, you win! Until the end of June you will receive rewards paid by Refinitiv (LSEG group). Each winning team will receive PLN 10,000 to be shared, and each winner who worked alone will receive PLN 6,000 (gross, on which Refinitiv will pay tax).
